Our Heritage
Garratt-Callahan Company was founded in Seattle in 1904, and relocated to San Francisco after World War I. Soon the company also had offices and manufacturing operations in Chicago and the New York metropolitan area. After World War II, as a third generation of the Garratt family became active in the business, we continued to expand, adding facilities in Texas and Georgia.
Today, with our extensive research and development facilities, modern analytical laboratories, nationwide production capabilities, and advanced technical services, Garratt-Callahan is one of the largest privately-owned water treatment companies in North America.
Over a century ago, Edward Garratt, along with partner John Callahan, founded Garratt-Callahan in Seattle, WA. They sold a water treatment solution called “Magic” which extended the useful life of boilers.
With the recyclable systems we use to deliver our products now, we’ve come a long way from the days of wooden barrels.
At Garratt-Callahan, the name on the door – or the window, in this case – has been the same for more than 100 years.
In the early decades of the 20th century, much of our boiler business was with the railroads, as steam locomotives kept America on the move.
Early on, Garratt-Callahan moved from Seattle to Spear Street in downtown San Francisco – the gateway of the golden west in the early 20th century.
As the science of water treatment has advanced, Garratt-Callahan has led the way, always committed to delivering results through accuracy.
Before long, Garratt-Callahan added facilities in Chicago (shown here), Dallas, Atlanta, and New Jersey in order to better serve customers across the nation.
Four generations of Garratts have helped build our family-owned firm; here are two of them (left to right: Dick, Mansfield Jr., Mansfield Sr., Bill).
The history of Garratt-Callahan is the history of American industry, from manufacturing and transportation to healthcare and hospitality.
